The 24-meter vessel, built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), marks a major advancement in sustainable transportation for the country. It is named ‘Suchetha’, the catamaran ferry utilizes an electric propulsion system powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
7. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) have released a report on the status of leopards in India. The report provides key insights into leopard distribution, population trends, and conservation challenges based on data from the fifth cycle of leopard population estimation conducted in 2022. India’s leopard population is estimated at 13,874 (range: 12,616 – 15,132). This indicates a stable population compared to 2018 estimates of 12,852 leopards.

KARNATAKA ASSEMBLY OKAYS TEMPLE BILL IN JOINT SITTING : A bill that sought to collect funds from temples with over Rs 10 lakh annual income, which was defeated by the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal-Secular combine in the legislative council last week, was taken up for reconsideration and passed by both houses of the legislature on Thursday. The Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024, will now be sent to the governor for his assent, following which it will become law.
9. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar has invited Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar to share a meal at his residence in Baramati during their visit to his hometown on 2nd March.
10. Himachal Pradesh assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Thursday disqualified six Congress MLAs, who had cross-voted in the recent Rajya Sabha polls, for abstaining from voting on the Budget in the assembly.
11. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday wooed the people of Tamil Nadu to vote for All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) if they want to protect the rights of the farmers. He said only AIADMK candidates will raise farmers’ voices in the parliament.
12. The Government has approved PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for installing rooftop solar system in one crore households with a total outlay of 75,021 crore rupees.

1. A special court in Rajasthan’s Thursday acquitted Abdul Karim Tunda in the 1993 serial blasts case, observing the prosecution could not provide enough evidence to prove the charges. The 81-year-old Tunda, a close aide of wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
Two other accused, Irfan and Hamiduddin, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court.
2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently cautioned mobile phone users about the potential fraud risks from “juice jacking”, a cyberattack vector, if they charge their devices through USB ports available in public spaces.
Juice jacking refers to a type of cyberattack where hackers rig publicly accessible USB power charging stations, like those found at airports, rail stations, malls etc., with malware or hardware modifications to illegally access data on connected mobile devices.
3. Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday asked the Haryana government not to grant further parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh without its permission.
4. Haryana police in Ambala district Thursday said they will be seeking cancellation of passports and visas of those found indulging in acts of vandalism during the ongoing farmers’ agitation.
5. Absconding TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan was today arrested by the West Bengal Police from a house at Minakhan, around 30 km away from the island of Sandeshkhali, in North 24 Parganas district. He will be remanded to 10 Days Police Custody by the Court.

1. On February 29th 2024, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd and The Walt Disney Company signed agreements to create one of India’s largest TV and streaming firms. The joint venture merges Viacom18 with Disney’s Star India to target rapid growth in the country’s digital entertainment space.
2. According to the latest data shared by the National Statistical Office (NSO), on Thursday, India’s Gross Domestic Production (GDP) accelerated to 8.4 % in the third quarter of 2023-24. In the last quarter, the GDP growth was marked at 7.6 %.

1. DRDO conducted two successful flight tests of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile on 28th & 29th Feb 2024 from a ground based portable launcher off the coast of Odisha from Integrated Test Range. These tests were carried out against high speed unmanned aerial targets under different interception scenarios.
2. Countries in Middle East and African regions have shown interest in BrahMos missiles. BrahMos boasts both air-launched and ground-launched versions.
BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms. BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.
3. Indian Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari and the Indian delegation on Thursday visited Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Base Birsrestho Matiur Rahman at Jashore.The Air Chief had a close interaction with the officer cadets, instructors at the BAF Academy and officers at BAF Base Jashore.
4. The IAF seeks to acquire the TEJAS Light Combat Aircraft MK-1A to replace its ageing MiG-21 fleet. The Mk 1A has a greater payload and fuel capacity than the earlier MK-1 aircraft, plus improved avionics and cockpit features.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is preparing the first two units of the improved TEJAS MK-1A for delivery to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in March.
5. Indian government, last week, approved a ₹20,000 crore deal for the BrahMos missile for the Indian Navy. The Cabinet Committee on Security gave the green light for the procurement of more than 200 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and associated equipment for the Indian Navy, enhancing the naval firepower significantly.
6. Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh , Director General National Cadet Corps (NCC) visited the NCC units of West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate from 26 to 28 Febuary 2024.
