Delhi: The ongoing tension between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor (LG) intensified after the LG office responded to Delhi Minister Atishi’s letter. The letter accused the LG of doing nothing when it comes to removing religious structures that are hindering development projects. The LG office accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of indulging in “cheap politics” and diverting attention from governance issues.

The Allegations

In his letter, Atishi said the delayed issue of unauthorized religious buildings was hampering business development in the city. He accused LG of creating obstacles in its jurisdiction due to inefficiency of staff and demanded immediate action.

He also alleged that the LG’s office ignored public interest in politicizing issues that required official attention.

The LG’s Office replies

In a strong statement, the LG office dismissed Atishi’s allegations as baseless. The chief minister is playing cheap politics to fool the masses. ” The issue of not allowing religious programs has been dealt with under the law and the allegations are nothing but an attempt to divert the attention of the AAP government,” an LG office spokesperson said.

The LG’s office also said that the AAP government was late in making clear recommendations to resolve the issue, which created a crisis.

Political behavior

The exchange provoked a strong reaction from politicians. BJP leaders backed the LG and accused the AAP of using religion to divert attention from the dysfunctional administration. On the other hand, AAP leaders said the LG’s office was postponing crucial decisions to sabotage the elected government.

Public problems

The dispute divided citizens, with many expressing frustration at the lack of unity between the two governing bodies. Residents affected by the shutdown called for an end to the blame game and urged both sides to focus on solving the problems.
