In a shocking incident in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, a young woman has been accused of planning her husband’s murder just 45 days after their wedding. What’s even more disturbing is that the crime appears to have been inspired by the sensational “Meghalaya honeymoon murder” case. In both stories, a newlywed bride allegedly plotted to eliminate her husband to continue a secret affair.
Long-Term Affair With Her Own Uncle
As per police records, 25-year-old Gunja Devi, or Gunja Singh, had been dating her maternal uncle, 52-year-old Jeevan Singh, for the last 15 years. In spite of the affair, she was married recently to Priyanshu Kumar Singh, 24, at the insistence of her family. Instead of calling it off with her uncle, however, she reportedly took a much darker path.
Murder Plot Planned and Carried Out
Police claim Gunja and Jeevan had meticulously planned the murder. They had allegedly hired two hitmen from the adjacent state, Jharkhand, to execute the crime. Priyanshu was on his way back from Varanasi on June 24 and had told his wife where he was. It was there that he was ambushed and gunned down near the Nabinagar railway station. The attack was well-planned minute after minute.
Shooters Arrested, Mastermind on the Run
The two assassins were later identified and apprehended. Under interrogation, Gunja allegedly owned up to her part in the crime. Her cell phone gave investigators a valuable call history that showed sustained contact with both the killers and her uncle. Whereas she and the killers are now under arrest, Jeevan Singh is presently on the run, and the police are actively pursuing him.
A Disturbing Trend of Copycat Crimes
This case follows a second in the past few weeks in the same area that is similar to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. The Aurangabad police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate deeper into these cases, suggesting the possibility of a wider trend or psychological force of heavily reported sensational crime news.
Shockwaves Across the State
The brutality of the case and family dynamics have left residents shocked. Residents are raising questions about how crime coverage in the media could be impacting vulnerable populations. In the meantime, the police have vowed to act quickly and are warning citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity among families or groups.
