A shocking report has emerged of the treatment meted out to BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw while he was in the custody of Pakistan. According to sources in the report, Shaw was treated like a spy and deprived of even fundamental human rights while in detention. The BSF jawan who crossed the border inadvertently was not permitted to brush his teeth, change attire, or even bathe during his sojourn.
Detained in Harsh Conditions
The report also alleges that Shaw, while under the custody of Pakistan, was put through severe interrogation and humiliation. He was reportedly kept in a small room with few amenities and under constant surveillance. Food and water were said to have been rationed, and he was forced to sit for extended hours without moving.
Mental and Physical Torture
People close to the issue report that the jawan was subjected to immense psychological trauma. Having no access to communications or legal assistance, Shaw was reportedly uncertain about his destiny for a few days. His physical and mental health started deteriorating because of the barbaric conditions and solitude.
Return to India and Debriefing
Purnam Kumar Shaw was finally handed over to Indian officials at the Wagah border. Upon his return, he was brought for a thorough medical examination and debriefing. Officials verified symptoms of stress and fatigue, which supported the allegations of ill-treatment. Though no official confirmation has been received from Pakistan regarding these charges, Indian security agencies are taking the report seriously.
Escalating Tensions and Decisive Response
The incident has also widened the rift between the two nations. The mistreatment of the soldiers by the Pakistanis was condemned by the Indian authorities, stressing that international procedures for treating detained military personnel were not observed. Plans are afoot to formally bring up the matter at the diplomatic level.
