New Delhi: Social Media Bomb Threats Cause Panic gripped the Indian skies on October 15, 2024, as a series of bomb threats were posted on social media to five Indian flights, including Air India’s Delhi-Chicago flight, AI127. The other four affected flights were Spice Jet from Darbhanga to Mumbai, Air India Express Jaipur-Bengaluru, IndiGo Dammam Lucknow, and Akasa Air Siliguri-Bengaluru. The threat was posted on an account, formerly Twitter, and sent alarmingly concerned authorities, forcing security agencies to respond swiftly.

investigation carried on
Some of these flights were diverted on the Delhi-Chicago route, which was the most notable. The flight that had already taken off was diverted to Canada. The security agencies in Canada carried out an all-time investigation of the security situation to ensure the safety of the passengers. Though all this was a ruse and nothing was meant to happen, the diversion also caused tremendous delays.

Had to go under check-ups
Check up on all flights Security protocols First, the Delhi-Chicago flight Air India Express coming from Jaipur had to undergo check-up at the Ayodhya airport before it was allowed to fly out. Another SpiceJet from Darbhanga to Mumbai and Akasa Air from Siliguri to Bengaluru also underwent check-up. On the other hand, Dammam to Lucknow IndiGo also had a security check but no explosives were found.

Recent upsurge in hoax threats This bomb threat came after a similar incident the previous day, with three international flights out of Mumbai facing threats. The spate of such hoaxes troubles security experts, inasmuch as it not only leads to operational delays but anxieties among the public. Yet each threat demands serious attention owing to the possibility of passenger safety at stake.

The interference of Civil aviation security
Investigation Ongoing The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has launched investigations into the source of these threats. Consulted with cybersecurity and law enforcement agents, they are tracing the individual or group behind this. Authorities believe even though this kind of hoax is damaging, the aggressive speed of response from the security agencies has mitigated possible risks.

An inquiry would thus redirect its efforts towards enhancing the safety levels of aircraft security, especially in countering hoaxes that may cause further frenzy or crisis. Passengers and airlines are, therefore, encouraged to be vigilant but patient as safety remains paramount.
