As tensions on the India-Pakistan border escalate, a bomb-like object was discovered in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Thursday, minutes after reports of multiple drone intrusions were reported from the other side of the border. The object, which was believed to be an explosive, was detected by villagers in a border village and was taken swiftly into custody by security agencies.
Area cordoned off, bomb squad deployed
As per the officials, the suspicious device was found lying on open ground, close to civilian houses. The local police, BSF, and army personnel reached the area immediately and cordoned off the area. A bomb disposal team was summoned to scan and defuse the device if needed.
As a precautionary measure, the surrounding villages were informed and movement was kept restricted to protect the public. We are treating the object as a suspected threat. “The bomb squad is doing a thorough investigation,” explained a senior police officer who took part in the operation.
Drone sightings attributed to Pakistan raise alarm
The discovery is just days after Indian troops reported a spike in sightings of drones from Pakistan along the international border in Punjab and Rajasthan. Intelligence agencies have been worried that such drone activity could be part of cross-border weapons smuggling or efforts to destabilize the region by carrying out clandestine attacks.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility that the object found in Jaisalmer may have been dropped via drone. However, investigations are still underway to determine its origin and whether it contains any explosives.
Political leaders call for vigilance and stronger response.
Some of the political leaders called for greater vigilance and prompt action against any efforts to violate India’s security. This is a serious issue. “The government must ensure such threats are neutralized before they are able to harm anyone,” was the statement made by a Rajasthan MLA.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has been informed, and security measures in border areas have been increased as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the authorities are urging citizens to be calm and report anything suspicious in their midst immediately.
