Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has accused the Center of forcibly taking back her official residence as the tension between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalates. Atishi claimed that the move was politically motivated, while the BJP denied the allegations and said it was a baseless rumor pushed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The accusations of Atishi

Addressing the media, Atishi alleged that the Center arbitrarily withdrew his official residence without giving any valid reason. “The house that was given to me as a minister has been taken back. This is my attempt to hinder my career and intimidate the AAP government,” he said. Atishi also linked the Bill to the Centre’s alleged attempts to undermine Delhi’s governance.

“This is not just an attack on me but on the people of Delhi who voted for AAP and want to see their government perform well,” he added.
BJP’s counterclaim

Responding to allegations, BJP leaders denied Atishi’s claims and accused the Delhi government of misleading the public. BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana said, “The house was allotted through formal processes and there is no question of it being ‘taken over.’ This is yet another lie by the Kejriwal government to divert attention from its failures.”

Khurana also accused the Delhi CM of creating unnecessary political drama by not paying attention to governance.

Political commentary

Controversy has been revived over the tussle between the Center and the Delhi government, especially after the Supreme Court verdict on the exercise of powers in the capital. The AAP has repeatedly accused the BJP-led Delhi government of meddling through the Lieutenant Governor’s Office at the Centre.

Public response

The incident has sparked reactions on social media. While AAP supporters criticized the Center for what they called “revenge politics”, BJP supporters questioned the veracity of Atishi’s remarks and demanded transparency in the allocation of government seats.

What’s next?

As the conflict intensifies, political observers predict the issue will further divide public opinion ahead of the upcoming elections. Both parties appear to be using the controversy to bolster their electorate.

With both sides trading barbs, the debate highlights the ongoing tension between the Delhi government and the central government.
