Ayodhya authorities have enforced a strict prohibition on drone usage based on orders by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The move was made in the light of escalating security threats and the rising deployment of drones in vulnerable areas. The prohibition is extended to all civilian drone usage, especially around religious and high-security areas in the temple town.
Reason behind the restriction
The decision has been made in the wake of increased vigilance about potential threats during future religious festivals and mass gatherings. Officials added that drones, if used incorrectly, can be a danger to public safety and disrupt law and order. Ayodhya, being a high-profile religious destination with ongoing work at the Ram Mandir complex, has remained under strict surveillance. The CM’s directive is intended to avert any breach or aerial incursion that could compromise security arrangements.
What the ban includes
According to the new order, aerial photography using drones for videography or personal purposes will be prohibited inside Ayodhya’s city limits unless granted permission by local authorities. Even media houses and content producers will need to obtain prior written permission to use drones over specified zones. Offenders can be punished under the law with the device being seized and potentially prosecuted under applicable sections of the IPC and aviation regulations.
Police and administration on alert
The district police have already been directed to conduct routine patrols and monitor any illegal drone activity. The administration has also started creating awareness among locals, asking them not to fly drones without permission. The top officers confirmed that temporary drone jammers will be employed if there are massive religious events or the visit of VIPs.
Locals respond to the decision
Although the ban has been appreciated by some residents and shopkeepers as a requirement for the preservation of peace, others, particularly photographers and social content creators, have feared the ambiguity in the grant of permission. Officials, however, have promised that a simplified system will be initiated to issue permits for legitimate purposes while maintaining unadulterated security.
Preventive measures ahead of festivals
The drone ban, however, is likely to stay with large Hindu festivals and political visits planned for the near future. Authorities have described it as a “precautionary but necessary” step to maintain Ayodhya’s safety as it continues to see increased footfalls and attention across the country.
