Advanced Tech Forms the Basis of India-US Future Relations: NSA Sullivan

NSA Sullivan

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said advanced technology will form the basis of an evolving strategic partnership between India and the United States. Speaking at a high-profile forum in Washington, Sullivan pointed to a shared vision between both countries on using leading-edge technologies to tackle global challenges and further enhance bilateral relations.

Technology as a Strategic Pillar

Sullivan outlined critical areas for cooperation between India and the US in sectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and space exploration. “Advanced technology is not just a tool; it is a strategic pillar that will define the trajectory of our relationship for decades to come,” he said.

The NSA mentioned the US-India Strategic Trade Dialogue and the Indo-US Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) Partnership as two examples of areas through which greater cooperation is being created.

Focus Areas for Cooperation

1. Defense Technology: Jointly developing the next-generation defense systems, such as drones and hypersonic missiles, is part of the plan.

2. Clean Energy: Both nations want to cooperate on green hydrogen, renewable energy storage, and electric mobility as a fight against climate change.

3. Space Exploration: It is pushing collaborative missions to the Moon and Mars and satellite technology together.

4. Cybersecurity: Strengthen cyber defenses and share intelligence to fight global cyber threats.

Geopolitical Significance

He also focused on the importance of India-US technological collaboration to push back against challenges that they share, including economic coercion, developing technological dependencies, and sustaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. “Our technological alliance is a bulwark against forces that seek to undermine global stability,” he said, often speaking indirectly of concerns about China’s deepening reach.

Growing Role of India

Recognizing the growing capabilities of India in the field of technological innovation, Sullivan appreciated Indian talent in Silicon Valley and the growing Indian startups. He also cited India’s successes in areas like space exploration and referred to Chandrayaan-3 as an example of the growing technological might of India.

A Future Vision

Sullivan concluded by saying that India and the United States are ready to transform the future of technology together, sharing a strong commitment towards democratic values and world progress. “Our cooperation is not only about mutual benefits but has a sense of a better, safer, and more prosperous world.”

The statement reveals a higher integration of interests between the two, placing advanced technology at the heart of their collaboration.
