How to watch a solar eclipse

How to watch a solar eclipse

We all want to see the solar eclipse. After all, it’s a fantastic phenomenon .

But here are some precautions to be taken  before doing so …

First thing that one needs to remember no matter whether a solar eclipse is total , annual or partial is –

Never view the Sun with the naked eye or by looking through optical devices such as binoculars or telescopes!

The retina could get burned and the funny thing is you would not even know when it will be happening as eyes do not have any pain receptors .

Make sure to get its reflection somewhere  and then see the beauty of the sun .

Have a white  sheet as a screen upon which reflection  can happen .

  • Use your hands : Hold up both hands with your fingers overlapping at right angles. The holes between your fingers make pinholes
  • Use tree : use shady trees if available and try looking at the images of the Sun coming through the holes formed by the leaves.
  • There are many tutorials available for pinhole projectors . Go use that . But remember (Do not look through the pinhole at the Sun! Look only at the image on the paper.!!!)
  • The pinhole will be small to get a bigger and clear view one can use Optical Projection .

But if you are not satisfied with the reflection and want to watch the solar eclipse directly there’s a way for that too.

Use filters

Make sure it’s a correct one , afterall the dimming of sunlight by a filter does not mean that harm cannot happen  . The infrared or ultraviolet radiation can not be seen and will damage one’s eyes .

  • Do NOT use sunglasses, polaroid filters, smoked glass, exposed color film, X-ray fill, or photographic neutral-density filters.
  • You can buy Eclipse glasses online but make sure it’s reliable.
  • 14 welder’s glass can also be used .

You can watch a beautiful, bright, magnified image of the sun as the eclipse proceeds.

Enjoy
