We all know that yellow spice  which adds color to the curries. Yes, that  same powder is also added to the milk to increase its effectiveness or when you’re injured your mom gives it as a medicine .

Turmeric is a superfood  and one of the most effective nutritional supplements in existence.

It has been traditionally used as a medicine and as a spice for food but now science is also backing up with the facts.

Turmeric has compounds called curcuminoids which have medicinal properties . A very strong antioxidant and anti – inflammatory compound is  present i.e curcumin .

However curucumin is not properly absorbed in the bloodstream. People focus on bioavailability of a curcumin that is increased by black pepper, which contains piperine.

Most of the supplements also contain piperine .

Turmeric has major benefits for your body and brain .

Inflammation is a multi layer topic and does not have a single take away. But the compounds in curcumin helps with inflammation however its bioavailability needs to be enhanced. Many chronic information is also relieved. Alzheimer disease and various other degenerative conditions can be prevented too .

Many animal studies have shown that  curcumin blocks the action of free radicals.

What are free radicals you ask ?

Well free radicals are reactive molecules and tend to react with organic substances . Our body needs to save itself from free radicals . They are the main contributing  reason for aging.

Turmeric effectively helps in preventing heart diseases . For decades heart disease has troubled scientists. It is a very complicated problem which does not have one solution and causes millions of deaths each year. Maybe curcumin can be a solution for it . Of course this problem does not have one solution but turmeric can be a good preventive measure for the same.

It helps prevent various neurodegenerative problems like Alzheimer’s . Curcumin can cross the blood-brain barrier helping with Alzheimer’s .

Arthritis  is an inflammatory problem many people deal with and joints get inflamed turmeric issued to reduce inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties and as also helping with arthritis.

Turmeric is indeed a super food helping in lots of problems and diseases however more research has to be done. It does not have any side effects so can be used as a preventive food.  Enjoy your curries !!
