Behind the Front

“Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are”
― Harold S. Kushner

Social work, random acts of kindness, and charity are one of the finest virtues that we can inhabit as citizens of a developing nation. But at the same time, mere good intentions and good work won’t benefit.

We may initially begin with a noble aim and purpose but gradually it turns into so many other things. Opportunists see it as their way to leak money out of donations. It is difficult to see what the color of humans is beneath the mask.

Not just workers from the team but the community we are working towards uplifting may use various means of corruption to profit from the schemes and projects for the underprivileged.

So, the question arises what do we do in a situation like this?

Do we fight it or let it go?
Do we chase and chastise the culprit or keep focused on upcoming projects?

In a layman’s world, none of these questions would have made any sense but in the world of revolutionaries and leaders, it makes tons of difference.

Ultimately, it depends on the people in power what they choose because situations differ from place to place and time to time. Yet, there is something that remains constant. Something that guides us in times like these, and helps us reach the right decision.

Bending on whims, anger, and prejudices is the last thing advisable to do here. Instead, listen to the heart of why we started this project. What drove us to this? Are we able to aid the needy and bring joy into their lives?

If yes, then, other things don’t matter. If few benefit while purpose is fulfilled and then, there is no greater good than that.

Turns like this reminds and brings us closer to the purpose of our lives. Kindness begins with love and flourishes in emptiness. Charity begins with things and flourishes with connecting hearts. The project begins with intention and flourishes with support.

Thus, it is important to practice kindness above everything: living, praying, and working. This is what makes our life on earth worth living. This is what counts as living.
