State of emergency in South Korea, amid anti-South Korean measures

South Korea

Delhi: South Korea has declared a state of emergency, in between growing threats from “anti-national sources” and growing concerns about communist infiltration.
The report says that the decision was taken after reports of attempts to do wrong to the country’s economic and political developments.

President Yoon Suk Yil declared a state of emergency, stressing the need for action to protect sovereignty and democratic institutions in South Korea. “The danger we face is also internal,” he said in a TV address, as “subversive forces seek to destroy the foundations of our country.”

New security measures
The state of emergency has increased surveillance of suspect groups, strengthened security measures such as border controls and deployment of additional security personnel. The government has also urged its citizens to be vigilant, and they are not wary of any dangerous activity.

Officials did not provide details of the threat but said evidence of coordinated activities linked them to pro-communist networks. “These groups are trying to use geopolitical pressure to sow discord in the country,” said a senior government official.

Growing geopolitical pressures

This comes amid heightened tensions in the Korean Peninsula as North Korea continues its missile tests and rhetoric against South Korea and its allies. Experts said that the announcement could also be a step to stop growing cyberattacks and espionage efforts attributed to North Korea.

“This is a way of responding to external and internal challenges. The government wants to send a strong message to enemy forces while reassuring the public.
