The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Saturday witnessed protests against the purported allotment of land for free to a former Sri Lankan cricketer in Kathua district of Jammu.
The issue was flagged by CPM veteran Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, who demanded an enquiry. Congress legislator Ghulam Ahmad Mir asked how a non-Indian was gifted land without any payment.
2. Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, who is on a visit to Nicaragua, arrived in the capital, Managua.

1. After US President Donald Trump imposed sweeping cuts on foreign aid programmes, more than 80 Afghan women who fled Taliban for higher studies in Oman stand to return to Afghanistan.
These women’s scholarships were funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a federal agency that now is at the brink of shutting down amid Trump and his ally Elon Musk’s decision to eliminate over 90 per cent of foreign aid contracts.
2. Pakistan has ordered all “illegal foreigners” and Afghan Citizen Card holders to leave by March 31, warning of deportations from April 1. The move, citing security concerns, has drawn international criticism. Pakistan has blamed militant attacks and crimes on Afghan citizens.
3. China announced tariffs on over $2.6 billion worth of Canadian agricultural and food products on Saturday, retaliating against levies Ottawa introduced in October and opening a new front in a trade war largely driven by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats.
4. The death toll from fighting in Syria’s coastal Latakia region had risen to over 500, as transitional government forces continued to battle an uprising carried out by armed loyalists to ousted leader Bashar al-Assad.
5. Iran has rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks that Russia has used Iranian military equipment against Ukraine. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in a statement, said that the repetition of such baseless and incorrect accusations by French officials was irresponsible.
6. At least 22 people have been killed in Ecuador’s port city of Guayaquil after rival factions of a drug trafficking gang exchanged gunfire yesterday.
7. Myanmar’s state media reported that the military government will hold elections in December or January.
8. South Korea’s impeached conservative president, Yoon Suk Yeol, was released from prison yesterday, a day after a Seoul court cancelled his arrest to allow him to stand trial for rebellion without being detained.
