1. India has been chosen to Chair the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna, Shambhu Kumaran officially assumed the Chairmanship of CND on Friday.
The CND is the principal policy-making body of the United Nations on drug-related matters. It is mandated to monitor global drug trends, support Member States in formulating balanced policies, and oversee implementation of the major international drug conventions.
2. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will participate in the Doha Forum at Qatar’s Doha on Saturday. This is the 22nd edition of the Doha Forum on the theme “The Innovation Imperative.” On Sunday, the External Affairs Minister will travel to Bahrain, where he will co-chair the 4th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission with his counterpart Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

6. India has been awarded the prestigious ISSA Good Practice Award for Asia and Pacific 2024, presented by Dr. Mohammed Azman, President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), at the Regional Social Security Forum held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
7. Glasgow-born Scottish Sikh artist Jasleen Kaur has been awarded the Turner Prize 2024, one of the world’s most prestigious accolades in contemporary art.
8. India asked Pakistan on Friday to take strong action against Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, after reports emerged that he delivered a speech recently at a public gathering in the Pakistani city of Bahawalpur.
Azhar, known to be the mastermind of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was designated as a global terrorist by the UN Security Council the same year.

1. Vote on Account passed in Sri Lanka Parliament without a vote. This refers to a pre-approved budget allocation by the Parliament for the outgoing government to cover its expenses during their remaining term in office. This allows for smooth functioning of the government without waiting for the full budget to be passed.
2. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressing the World Leader Forum organised by Columbia University in New York has urged the Nepali youths living abroad to return home and create employment opportunities.
3. In Iran, at least 29 people were injured as an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 jolted the country’s southwestern province of Khuzestan yesterday morning. The quake, which reportedly occurred at 7:32 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 km with its epicentre at Haftkel County.
4. French President Emmanuel Macron said he will name a new Prime Minister in the coming days after Michel Barnier resigned following a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
5. The third Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite was launched Thursday night aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. The launch marked the return of the Italian-built Vega-C launcher, two years after a failure during its debut commercial mission.
6. Syrian rebels captured the key city of Hama, bringing the rebels a major victory after a lightning advance across northern Syria.
