1. Prominent Indian-American community organisations have urged the Chancellor of Rutgers University in New Jersey not to allow the display of a separatist Kashmiri flag on its campus, asserting it would send a wrong message amidst the current chaos at leading US educational institutions against Israel’s war in Gaza.
2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday refuted US President Joe Biden’s “xenophobia” remark and argued that India’s economic growth is at 7 per cent which is higher than many other countries.Jaishankar reiterated that India is the most open, pluralistic and diverse society not “Xenophobic”.
3. India and Maldives held the 4th meeting of the bilateral High-Level Core Group on Friday and reviewed the replacement of Indian military personnel from the Island nation by May 10 and noted that government will replace military personnel before the noted time.

1. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that his government has voted unanimously to down the local offices of Qatar-owned broadcaster Al Jazeera, escalating Israel’s long-running feud with the channel at a time when cease-fire negotiations with Hamas. Israeli media said the vote allows Israel to block the channel from operating in the country for 45 days.
2. The US Secret Service said that a driver died after slamming a car into the White House’s exterior gate late Saturday (May 4). The Secret Service has initiated an investigation into the deadly crash, in collaboration with the District of Columbia’s police and fire departments.
3. Queensland Labour Party MP Brittany Lauga alleged she was drugged and sexually assaulted in Yeppoon, a central Queensland town. She said she contacted the police in the early hours of Sunday morning.
4. Hundreds of Cubans have been hired by the Russian military to fight in its war against Ukraine, a BBC report has claimed.
5. Jason Holton, believed to be one of Britain’s “heaviest men”, died from organ failure just a week before his 34 birthday, his family has said. Holton died last Saturday in Surrey after doctors were unable to prevent his organs from failing. He weighed an estimated 317kg.
