1. India and the Philippines have agreed to elevate bilateral cooperation to the level of strategic partnership. The decision was taken during bilateral talks between PM Modi and visiting Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr in New Delhi.

2. Russia has rejected recent US remarks against India over its oil imports, asserting that sovereign nations have a right to choose their trading partners independently.

3. US President Donald Trump escalated tensions with India by announcing plans to “substantially raise” tariffs on Indian imports to the United States, specifically targeting India’s purchase and resale of Russian oil.

4. India has officially emerged as the world’s fifth largest aviation market, handling 241 million passengers in 2024, according to the latest World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Among the busiest flight routes, Mumbai-Delhi ranked 7th globally, marking India’s growing dominance in global air travel.

5. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has arrived in Moscow for a visit focused on strengthening India’s defence and energy ties with Russia. The visit comes as the United States raises concerns over India’s ongoing oil trade with Russia.

6. India and New Zealand continue to demonstrate the strength and depth of their bilateral relationship, with recent high-level meetings further reinforcing their commitment to robust defence and strategic cooperation. On 4 August 2025, Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, held talks in New Delhi with Kathleen Pearce, the Head of the International Branch of New Zealand’s Ministry of Defence.

7. The India-Brazil partnership on biofuels is gaining momentum amid rising global trade tensions and shifting energy geopolitics. While the India-US trade relationship faces strain due to tariffs and disagreements, India and Brazil are deepening cooperation through the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA). This alliance focuses on sustainable biofuel adoption and energy security.

1. Israeli defence systems intercepted a new missile attack on the Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel launched by Yemen’s Houthi military group. The Houthis fired a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting the Israeli airport.

2. Afghanistan is witnessing its sharpest-ever surge of child malnutrition, the World Food Program has said adding the country requires 539 million dollars to help the most vulnerable families.

3. Australia and Japan have signed their largest-ever defence agreement. Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said that under the deal, Australia will acquire 11 advanced Mogami-class stealth frigates from Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to upgrade its naval fleet. These warships, capable of launching long-range missiles, boast an operational range of up to 10,000 nautical miles, far exceeding the current Anzac-class’s 6,000.

4. Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party launched a nationwide protest marking the second anniversary of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest.

5. Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro had been put under house arrest as per an order issued by the country’s Supreme Court. The decision was announced as the former president is facing trial for allegedly plotting a coup against President Lula da Silva.

6. Russia has officially declared it no longer considers itself bound by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. The 1987 arms control deal had banned ground-launched missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometres.

7. In Nepal, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama resigned from his post.
