1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is holding talks with top Sri Lankan leadership in Colombo yesterday. Mr Jaishankar reached Colombo yesterday morning on a day-long visit to Sri Lanka.

2. The controversial Islamic preacher, a fugitive in India, Mr. Zakir Naik arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a month-long tour. He has received a high level welcome in Pakistan. the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the visit as ‘condemnable’ but added it was not ‘surprising.’

3. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation to Islamabad for the SCO Summit to be held in 15th and 16th October.

4. Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will visit India from 6th to 10th October following an invitation from President Smt Droupadi Murmu.

During the visit, Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to hold meetings with President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior officials to enhance bilateral ties.

5. Nepal, India and Bangladesh signed a tripartite agreement allowing Nepal to sell 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh using the land and infrastructure of India. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) signed the agreement in Kathmandu.

6. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo jointly chaired the India-U.S. CEO Forum held in Washington D.C., USA. The India-U.S. CEO Forum convened as a platform to allow private sector members to develop and provide recommendations to the Indian and US governments.

1. Israel launched a series of strikes across strongholds of armed group Hezbollah in Lebanon in the past 24 hours, resulting in a devastating toll on civilian life.

2. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi landed in Beirut to meet Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

3. In Haiti, at least 20 people, including children, have been killed and 50 wounded in an armed gang attacked.

4. The European Union voted to pave the way for tariffs of up to 35.3 percent on electric vehicles imported from China. According to media reports, the vote comes after a year-long anti-subsidy investigation by the European Commission.

5. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), at least 87 people died when an overcrowded boat capsized on Lake Kivu in the eastern part of the country on Thursday. The provincial government reported that 78 people are still missing. The exact number of passengers aboard the boat remains unknown.

6. In Taiwan, eight people were killed in a fire that broke out in a hospital in Pingtung.

7. The 26th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2024 began at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

8. Taiwan has recently received its first shipment of 100 land-based Harpoon anti-ship missile systems from the United States, which arrived at Kaohsiung Port on September 27. This is an important step in strengthening Taiwan’s military.
