1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with Secretary-General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs Anne-Marie Descotes on Monday. He stated that the strategic partnership between two nations is growing from “strength to strength.”
2. “India-France Bilateral Dialogue on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation was held on 4 March 2024 New Delhi. The two sides discussed developments in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation relating to the nuclear, chemical, biological domains, as well as outer space security, conventional weapons including AI in the military domain and Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems, and multilateral export control regimes,” the Ministry of External Affairs.

5. Maldives’ National Defence Force has apprehended an Indian fishing boat for fishing inside the Maldives Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Male-based Adhadhu reported on Sunday. The boat was apprehended 13 miles inside the Maldives EEZ to the east of Haa Alif Kelaa island on Saturday.

8. A five-day exchange programme for the faculties of foreign service academies of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) member states began in Dhaka for the first time.
During the exchange programme, diplomats of the BIMSTEC member countries will present proposals on ways to increase mutual cooperation among the Foreign Service training institutions of the South and South East Asian sub-regional platforms.

1. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif was on Monday sworn in as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan, Dawn reported. The swearing-in took place amid protests in different parts of the country by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which has alleged rigging in the general elections held last month.
2. Baloch rights organisation Baloch Yakjehti Committee in a social media post on X stated that while Gwadar is portrayed as a “beacon” of development and prosperity, it has instead become a symbol of “exploitation, despair, and suffering.”
The multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) stood ‘exposed’ as the relief aid could not reach the flood-affected people in Gwadar despite tall claims made for the project.
3. China on Monday (March 4) inked a defence cooperation agreement with the Maldives that will offer the island nation free military aid to promote “stronger” bilateral ties.
The move comes weeks after President Mohamed Muizzu set a deadline for the departure of the first contingent of Indian military personnel from his country.
4. The Supreme Court overturned a judicial decision that had excluded Donald Trump from Colorado’s ballot under a constitutional provision involving insurrection for inciting and supporting the 2021 Capitol Hill riots.
5. Indian-American presidential candidate Nikki Haley defeated Donald Trump to mark her first win in the Republican nominating contest. Haley achieved the feat against the former American President in Washington DC. Haley received 1274 votes against Trump’s 676.
6. United States (US) Vice President Kamala Harris will meet Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz at the White House. The talks are expected to span topics including reducing Palestinian civilian casualties, securing a temporary ceasefire, the release of hostages held in Gaza and increasing aid to the territory.
