1. India and Oman are actively enhancing their defence and maritime partnership, as evidenced by recent diplomatic engagements and strategic meetings.The 13th round of the India-Oman Strategic Consultative Group (IOSCG) meeting took place on 3 December 2024, in New Delhi.

2. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar discussed the multifaceted India-Kuwait relations and ways to further expand ties with his Kuwait counterpart Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya in New Delhi. They also exchanged views on recent developments in West Asia and India’s cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council.

3. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck is on a two-day visit to India. During the visit, the King of Bhutan will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and senior officials.

4. The ministry of external affairs on Wednesday briefed a parliamentary panel on the issues involving China and Canada, blaming the North American country government’s unfriendly policies for the slump in ties with India. Foreign secretary Vikram Misri told the Standing Committee of the external affairs that the disengagement process with China in Ladakh had progressed.

2. China has launched its first atmospheric monitoring station in East Antarctica, aimed at studying climate change and atmospheric components. Located in Larsmann Hills, the Zhongshan National Atmospheric Background Station will provide long-term data with unique scientific value.

3. Brian Thompson, CEO of the largest US health insurance company, United Healthcare was shot dead yesterday in New York. Local police authorities have informed that Brian was killed in a targeted attack and the masked assailant escaped on a bicycle.

4. French Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government has lost a confidence vote in the National Assembly leading to his ouster into just three months of his term. A total of 331 out of 577 lawmakers voted against Barnier’s government, after the attempt to pass an annual budget without a vote in parliament on Monday.

5. Scottish artist Jasleen Kaur has won the prestigious Turner Prize, a major UK contemporary art award, as it celebrated its 40th anniversary.

6. Israel has warned that it would expand its attacks to target Lebanon if the fragile truce with Hezbollah collapses. The warning comes after Hezbollah fired two mortars at a disputed border area on Monday, accusing Israel of violating the truce.

7. In Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of the ruling South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) party has won the country’s eighth presidential election, becoming its first female president.

8. UK MPs have raised concern over the ethnic cleansing of Hindus in Bangladesh. An urgent issue was tabled in the House of Commons in the UK’s parliament over the worrisome situation in Bangladesh. Conservative MP Priti Patel called the situation in Bangladesh deeply concerning. Referring to the surge in incidents of violence, vandalism, and desecration targeting Hindu minorities.
