1. Leading Indian flyer Indigo commenced direct flights between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna. Jaffna already connects Chennai through daily flights, which has provided much-needed connectivity for people of both countries.
According to the flight schedule, IndiGo will operate flights six days a week, with departures from Tiruchirappalli (TRZ) at 13:25, arriving in Jaffna (JAF) at 14:25. The return flight from Jaffna will depart at 15:10 and reach Tiruchirappalli by 16:05. This expansion is expected to boost travel and trade between India and Sri Lanka.
2. The Consulate General of India in Jaffna has launched a Hindi language course at the University of Vavuniya, catering to growing interest in the language.
The course was inaugurated jointly by Indian Consul General Sai Murali and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atputharajah.
3. PM Modi on Sunday announced “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” as the theme of this year’s International Day of Yoga. The United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga with an aim to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga. It was first celebrated in 2015.

1. Nepal’s Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced plans to take legal action against those responsible for the violent protests led by supporters of the ex-king in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28.
2. A strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit near Tonga, prompting an initial tsunami warning that was later lifted for the Pacific island country. The US Geological Survey said the quake hit about 100 kilometres northeast of the main island in the early morning hours of Monday local time.
3. Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a new transitional government dominated by close allies, replacing caretaker authorities in place since the ouster of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad.

5. In Pakistan, the government in Balochistan province has banned night-time travel across several key national highways amid a worsening law and order situation in the area where multiple terrorist attacks have occurred on vehicles in recent weeks.
6. Turkish authorities said that they arrested a Swedish journalist dispatched to cover ongoing nationwide protests on charges of terrorism and insulting the president. Turkiye accused Joakim Medin of taking part in a rally in Stockholm in January 2023 attended by supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which included an effigy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
7. China, Japan and South Korea have agreed to boost trade cooperation in a meeting held in Seoul on Sunday.
