31st meeting of the Working Mechanism

1. *The 31st meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on 🇮🇳India – 🇨🇳China Border Affairs was held in Beijing:* India and China have decided to uphold peace and tranquility on the ground in border areas. Both the countries have reiterated that restoration of peace and tranquility, and respect for Line of Actual Control (LAC) are the essential basis for restoration of normalcy in bilateral relations. Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs Gourangalal Das led the Indian delegation.

2. *India and Saudi Arabia🇸🇦 signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Riyadh* in a significant move to enhance bilateral cooperation in public sector auditing. The agreement was signed by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, and President of the Saudi General Court of Audit, Dr. Hussam Al-Angari.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a three-day visit to 🇧🇳Brunei and 🇸🇬Singapore beginning Tuesday.

4. National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Ajit Doval, participated in the signing of the Founding Documents of the Colombo Security Conclave. The signing event marked a significant step in regional security collaboration among India, 🇲🇻Maldives, 🇲🇺Mauritius, and Sri Lanka. Following discussions at the 6th NSA-level meeting held in December 2023 in Mauritius.

5. Google DeepMind’s India unit is leading a big AI project called “Morni.” This project is focused on developing AI technologies that can understand and work with 125 different Indian languages and dialects.

6. Singapore Airlines on August 30, said it has received approval from the Indian government for the foreign direct investment as part of the proposed merger of Vistara with Air India.

7. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said the ‘era of uninterrupted dialogue’ with Pakistan is over even as he noted that India is ‘not passive’ and whether events take a positive or negative direction, either way New Delhi will react.

1. *Flights on the Jomsom-Pokhara route resumed after 60 days.* The air service connecting Pokhara and Jomsom was halted on June 29 this year owing to adverse weather conditions. Pokhara is the tourism capital of Nepal and Jomsom municipality is the starting point of the scenic trekking routes in Upper Mustang and Manang district.

2. An initiative launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, ‘Bring Kids Back UA’, has urged the release of all Ukrainian children detained in Russia during the ongoing conflict in the region.

3. New Zealand’s Māori King, Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII, passed away on August 30, 2024, at the age of 69, just days after celebrating 18 years on the throne. He was the seventh monarch of the Kiingitanga movement, established in 1858 to unify Māori tribes against British colonization. Tuheitia died following heart surgery.
