1. India is considering changing the rules of the Ganga (Ganges) water sharing treaty with Bangladesh as the 30-year agreement, signed in 1996, approaches its expiration in 2026.

India is seeking an additional 30,000–35,000 cusecs of water during the critical dry season (January to May) to meet the growing needs of West Bengal and neighbouring states. The demand for water has increased significantly for irrigation, industrial use, drinking water, and maintaining the navigability of Kolkata Port, as well as for hydroelectric power generation.

2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a three-day official visit to the United States from today, at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to participate in the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled to be held tomorrow.

3. India’s Ministry of External Affairs strongly denied Pakistan’s accusation that India was behind a recent attack on the Pakistan Army in Waziristan.

4. Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has once again intensified his rhetoric against India, delivering a combative speech at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi on Saturday, June 28, 2025. He blamed India for escalating regional tensions and vowed a “decisive response” to any future Indian aggression.

5. Odisha Samaj UAE hosted its 15th annual Rath Yatra, drawing more than 1,000 devotees from across all seven emirates. The event has become one of the most prominent celebrations for the Odia diaspora in the region, bringing together families and faith communities in a shared expression of devotion.

1. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have announced the killing of Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, a founding member of Hamas and its military wing, in an airstrike in Gaza City. Al-Issa was described by the IDF as one of the masterminds of the 7 October 2023, attack on Israel.

2. US President Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ has passed the key Senate vote. The bill was passed with a narrow vote of 51 to 49. As the bill now heads for its next round of votes, the US president has hailed the key Senate vote as a great victory for the Republican party.

3. In Pakistan, at least five people were injured when a 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook Balochistan province yesterday.

4. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the busiest airport in the world, after a severe storm wreaked havoc.

5. Protests Escalate in Belgrade, Serbia Amid Calls for Early Elections: Thousands of anti-government protesters clashed with police in Serbia’s capital Belgrade. The demonstrators, mostly led by university students, called for early parliamentary elections and accused President Aleksandar Vucic’s government of corruption and authoritarian rule.
