#External affairs Minister: Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

1. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will be on an official visit to Qatar today.
2. India presided over its first meeting as Chair of the ‘Colombo Process’ at the Permanent Representative Level Meeting in Geneva on Friday at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Headquarters.
3. The World Bank has agreed to lend India $1.5 billion to help it move toward a low-carbon energy future. This strategic funding will help create green hydrogen and electrolyzers and make it easier for the country to use renewable energy.
4. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence were set up in 1954 in a deal between China and India. This year marks their 70th anniversary.
The Non-Aligned Movement, founded by Jawaharlal Nehru, that rose in the 1960s adopted the ‘Panchsheel’. ‘Panchsheel’ pointers were first formally enunciated in the Agreement on Trade and Intercourse between India and Tibet region of China, signed on 29 April 1954.
5. A new system for currency swaps between SAARC countries has been set up, covering the years 2024–2027. This is a big update from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
6. The Bengaluru – Abu Dhabi flight is planned to operate six times a week, providing a convenient gateway for Indian travellers to explore Abu Dhabi and beyond through IndiGo’s extensive network from 01 Aug.

1. Iran’s 14th presidential election has entered a run-off vote, with former Health Minister Masoud Pezeshkian and former chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili leading in the first round, as no one has got minimum threshold of 50 per cent of votes. Prompting a second round on July 5.
2. In Russia, at least five persons were killed as a fire raced through a dormitory in a Moscow suburb. Initial investigation showed the fire in the suburb of Balashikha was caused by an electrical fault.
