1. Russian President Putin will meet PM Narendra Modi on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China’s Tianjin.
2. Japan on Friday set a target of 10 trillion yen ($68 billion) in private investments in India over a decade as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Shigeru Ishiba finalised a 10-year roadmap to deepen economic cooperation in vital areas such as technology, digitalisation and rare earths against the backdrop of uncertainty created by the trade policies of the US administration.

1. Thailand’s Constitutional Court dismissed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office on Friday (August 29, 2025) for an ethics violation after only a year in power, She becomes the fifth PM removed in 17 years.
*Paetongtarn, who was Thailand’s youngest prime minister, becomes the sixth premier from or backed by the billionaire Shinawatra family to be removed by the military or judiciary in a tumultuous two-decade battle for power between the country’s warring elites.
2. Ukrainian Navy’s reconnaissance ship Simferopol, which was reportedly the largest ship commissioned by the country in over a decade, has been hit and sunk in a naval drone strike, the Russian Defence Ministry announced.
3. Afghanistan’s foreign ministry summoned Pakistan’s ambassador in Kabul to lodge a formal protest against what Taliban authorities said were Pakistani military strikes in Nangarhar and Khost provinces. The local media reported that Afghan officials strongly condemned the overnight strikes which claimed the lives of three people and injured seven others.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said in a report that Monkeypox continues to be a global health risk, with 47 countries reporting a total of 3,924 confirmed cases, including 30 deaths in July. The situation report for the multi-country outbreak of Mpox in July showed that all clades of Mthe pox virus continue to circulate in several countries.
8. In Sri Lanka, Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne has been remanded to police custody by the Colombo High Court in connection with a case involving a sand mining project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour.
