1. India has become the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market after the U.S. and China. According to data compiled by aviation analytics firm Official Airline Guide (OAG), India is now third in aviation market after airlines such as IndiGo and Air India have expanded their fleet size to cater to the surge in air passengers.
2. India has rejected the US State Department’s report on International Religious Freedom, 2023 and termed it as deeply biased. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said it lacks understanding of India’s social fabric and is visibly driven by vote bank considerations and a prescriptive outlook.
3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Antonio Costa on being elected as the next President of the European Council.
4. Dr Usha Thakur was awarded the 12th Vishwa Hindi Samman in a Hindi Samvad event organised by the Embassy of India in Nepal recognising her contribution in the development of Hindi literature.
5. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said the closer engagement between the media organizations of two countries is important in shaping a positive narrative of New Delhi-Dhaka partnership oriented towards shared values and aspirations. The High Commissioner was speaking at a special interactive session with members of Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
6. The Government of India has made a whopping contribution of USD 1,169,746 for ‘Hindi @ UN’ project to expand the use of Hindi in the United Nations.
7. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent India at the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Astana next week as PM Modi has decided to skip it.
8. ISRO chairman S Somanath announced at the India Space Congress-2024 in New Delhi that the GSAT 20 satellite has been cleared. It will be shipped to the US and launched using the Falcon 9 rocket in the middle of August, he said. It will be a dedicated Falcon 9 launch.
9. Telugu has become the 11th most spoken foreign language in the USA. It is the third most spoken Indian language in the US as well, behind Hindi and Gujarati.
10. Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday highlighted the relevance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which gained traction with the Non-Aligned Movement, to end the present-day conflicts and sought to expand influence in the Global South amid its tussle with the West.

1. A 7.2 magnitude earth quake rocked Peru. The US Geological Survey said the temblor hit 8.8 kilometers from Atiquipa district.
2. Voting held yesterday for the presidential elections in Iran. The 14th Presidential Elections in the west Asian country were initially set to be held in 2025, but were rescheduled after President Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash last month.
3. Mongolia’s ruling party, the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP), declared victory in the Parliamentary elections. Speaking to media, MPP Chairman and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai said, according to preliminary results, his party won at least 68 out of a total 126 seats in the Parliament.
4. Bangladesh received 1.15 billion dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday, marking the third tranche of a 4.7 billion dollars loan package. Besides the IMF funds, Bangladesh also received around 900 million dollars from other sources including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
5. US Presidential candidates, Joe Biden of the Democratic Party and former President Donald Trump of the Republicans had their first showdown of the televised debate in Atlanta on Thursday. Besides hurling personal attacks on each other, their debate touched the the topics like, economy, immigration, healthcare. Trump began the debate by boasting about the state of the economy during his tenure and handling Covid-19 pandemic.
6. The delay in the return of astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore is looking to extend further as reports are suggesting that Starliner’s latest targeted return date is 6th of July. The mission which was originally planned for eight days, would now last a month.
7. Denmark plans to implement a tax on livestock farmers starting in 2030, making it the first nation to do so. This initiative targets methane emissions from cows, sheep, and pigs, which are significant contributors to global warming. The goal is to achieve a 70 per cent reduction in Danish greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by the year 2030.
