1. The Government of India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. Now, it is said that the govt will conduct a study on maximising the use of water from the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab, the three rivers that were previously allocated to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty.

2. India is considering expediting five hydroelectric power projects in Jammu & Kashmir, potentially bypassing the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) clearance process. This move aims to boost J&K’s power generation by 4000MW and enhance India’s strategic control over western river water resources. The projects, including Bursar, Dulhasti II, Swalkote, Uri Stage II, and Kirthai II, could be completed in 3-5 years.

3. On 27th April, Pakistani propaganda YouTube channel Azaad Siasat published an interview with Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. During the interview, Pannun made several baseless and provocative claims, including that two crore Sikhs living in Punjab would not allow the Indian government to attack Pakistan.

4. Bangladesh says it supports a peaceful resolution to the India-Pakistan tensions over Kashmir, calling for dialogue and diplomacy to ensure the South Asia region.

5. The World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) which is scheduled from 1st to 4th of May next month, places India at the centre stage of global creativity.

6. Madhusudan Sai, a well-known humanitarian leader, was recently awarded the prestigious ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’ by the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at a special ceremony held at the State House of Fiji on April 25, 2025. This honor reflects his immense contributions to healthcare, particularly his work in establishing the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Fiji.

7. India is preparing to permit foreign companies to acquire up to a 49% stake in its nuclear power sector.

8. India delivered a dominant performance at the Asian Yogasana Sport Championship, securing a record 83 gold medals to top the medal tally at the event in Delhi.

Japan, which claimed three gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Mongolia, Oman and Nepal rounded off the top five standings. Countries such as Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Bhutan also showcased strong performances,.

1. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced three day ceasefire in Ukraine for Victory Day celebrations. The ceasefire will begin from midnight on May 7-8 until midnight on May 10-11.

2. In Yemen: 68 African migrants killed, 50 wounded in US strike on detention centre.

3. North Korea confirms sending troops to support Russia in Ukraine.

4. In European Union (EU) GSP+ Monitoring Mission is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka for a biannual review of the country’s compliance with Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) trade requirements. The team will stay until May 7.

5. The death toll from a massive explosion at a port near the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas has reached 40. The Saturday explosion and the subsequent fire left more than 1,000 people wounded.
