1. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has said that only international cooperation can ensure that the global commons are secure and global goods are delivered. Participating in the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum in Vientiane, Lao PDR on Saturday, he stated that neither the deployment of new technologies nor the interdependence of globalization should be unfairly leveraged.

2. This year, UNESCO has added 25 new landmark sites to the World Heritage List during the 46th World Heritage Committee Session held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

3. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, shortly before meeting his Chinese counterpart on Saturday, urged Southeast Asian countries to help address challenges including Beijing’s “escalating and unlawful actions” in the South China Sea.

Blinken also called the civil war in Myanmar “heartbreaking” and stressed to foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) the need to work together to tackle issues like the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine and North Korea’s missile programmes.

4. India and the US signed a deal on cultural property on July 26, 2024. The goal was to make it easier for them to work together to protect cultural heritage.

5. The Maldives has resumed using a Dornier aircraft and two helicopters gifted by India for medical evacuations after the two countries reached an understanding over the repatriation of Indian military personnel operating the three aviation platforms in the archipelagic nation.

6. India has assumed the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for 2024-25, succeeding China. This move highlights India’s leadership in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

1. In the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris officially filed her nomination on Saturday, declaring her candidacy for the post of President.

2. At least 30 Palestinians have been killed and over 100 wounded in central Gaza following an Israeli strike on a school that was sheltering injured and displaced Palestinians.

3. In Bangladesh, three leaders of the ‘Students Against Discrimination’ were taken to the custody of the Detective Branch of Dhaka police. Three coordinators — Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud and Abu Baker Majumder of the Students Against Discrimination were taken into the Detective Branch (DB) police custody.

4. In Yemen, the US-British coalition conducted four airstrikes on Hodeidah province. The strikes hit the Red Sea coastal district of Alluhayah, northwest of the province.

5. OpenAI has released SearchGPT, which is a challenge to Google’s long-time reign as the best search engine. The goal of this AI-powered search tool is to improve the user experience by giving them information and results from the internet in real-time.
