1. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj has questioned the United Nations Security Council for not being able to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that has continued for over two years. On 24 February 2022, Russia launched military offensive in Ukraine. The invasion has become the largest attack on a European nation since World War II.

2. India and Oman have reached a consensus on a majority of issues in the comprehensive economic partnership agreement and talks are likely to conclude soon.

3. India, Thailand hold 10th Joint Commission Meeting: India and Thailand signed multiple agreements in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Thailand’s Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara in the national capital on Tuesday.

4. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called out the space given to extremist Khalistani elements in foreign countries and said this is not freedom of speech, but a misuse of it. He said it is not good for any country to send that kind of message for their own reputation and expressed hope that action will be taken. The EAM was speaking at the event ‘The Rise of the Global South’ at TV9 Bharatvarsh Conclave on Monday.

5. Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristie Canegallo, will attend the US-India Homeland Security Dialogue, which is scheduled to be held on 28 February.

6. US-India Cybersecurity Initiative Launched : The inaugural US-India Cyber Security Initiative, a collaboration between the US Consulate and MCCIA, aims to strengthen IT partnerships, unite global experts, and address cyber challenges.

7. Mauritius Government has decided to amend Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) with India in order to go with OECD’s proposal on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting.

What is Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA)?
The Double Tax Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) is a treaty signed between two countries so that non-residents will be able to avoid paying double taxes. India has signed DTAA with 85 nations to safeguard non-resident Indians from double taxation.

1. ISRAEL DESTROYS WEAPONS FACTORY AND ROCKET LAUNCHERS NORTHERN GAZA : Israeli soldiers continued to conduct targeted raids in the Gaza City district of Zeitoun, the Israel Defence Forces said. Soldiers also caught several terrorists trying to flee a combat zone amid Palestinian civilians who were being evacuated.

4. The South Korean health ministry announced on Tuesday (Feb 27) that nurses are now granted legal protection to perform certain medical procedures typically handled by doctors.

Following the trainee doctors’ protest last week against the government’s plan to increase medical school admissions to address a shortage of doctors, nurses expressed concerns about the legal risks and increased workload they now face.
