1. The top 10 finalists of the “Innovate2Educate: Handheld Device Design” challenge under the upcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) were announced. The challenge is centred on driving innovation among the youth at the intersection of technology, education, and gaming.

1. Canadians will vote today to elect a new government. They will elect a 343-member House of Commons. A party or combination of parties securing 172 seats will form the government.

2. Uganda has declared an end to the Ebola Sudan Virus Disease (SVD) outbreak after completing a 42-day mandatory countdown without any new confirmed cases reported.

3. The US, Donald Trump has recorded the lowest 100-day approval rating of any president in the country in the past 80 years. Trump also faced strong opposition on a range of policy issues. Majorities said they disapproved of his handling of stock market volatility, tariffs, foreign relations, and the economy overall.

4. In Canada, nine people were killed and several were injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Filipino Festival in Vancouver.

5. The Iranian government has declared a day of national mourning on April 28 amid the deadly blast at the Shahid Rajaee port.

6. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that five Chinese military aircraft, 14 Chinese navy ships, and one official vessel were detected operating near Taiwan.
