1. PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the future of Strategic Partnership between India and Saudi Arabia.

2. India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are poised to commence negotiations in February aimed at modernizing their existing free trade agreement (FTA).

3. India is poised to secure exploration and development rights for five lithium blocks in Argentina, marking its second international foray into critical minerals after a partnership with Australia in 2022. The deal is on the verge of finalization between Khanij Bidesh India Ltd.

4. A plane that was detained in France on suspicions of human trafficking arrived in Mumbai with 276 people on Tuesday. A total of 303 passengers had boarded a chartered plane last week in Fujairah airport in the United Arab Emirates for a flight to Managua, Nicaragua.

French authorities had detained the plane last Thursday on an anonymous tip-off when it stopped for refuelling.

1. In Pakistan, following the Election Commission of the country’s mandate for political parties to field at least 5% of women candidates on general seats, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

2. The United States military has responded to the attack on its forces based in Iraq and Syria by targetting the Iran-backed terrorist groups in Iraq.

3. Death toll in weekend attacks in central Nigerian state of Plateau rises to 113; More than 300 injured.

4. Egypt has proposed a three-phase plan to end the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

(a) In the first phase of the plan, Israel would be expected to pause its military operations for one to two weeks for Hamas to release 40 hostages, including women and the elderly.

(b) The second phase includes an agreement of the exchange of bodies of Hamas militants held by Israel for the bodies of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

(c) The third phase of the plan includes an ‘all-for-all’ deal meaning Israel would return 6,000 Palestinian prisoners in its jails for the remaining Israeli hostages including soldiers, Hamas is holding in captivity.

5. Russia has confirmed that one of its warships has been damaged in a Ukrainian air strike on a Black Sea port.

6. Turkish air strikes killed eight civilians in Syria’s Kurdish-held northeast Monday. As Ankara launched operations in Iraq and Syria following deadly attacks on its soldiers.

7. Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi held talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and discussed the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

8. China successfully launched a Long March-11 carrier rocket into space, sending three satellites into planned orbit.

9. Angola, a significant oil-producing nation, has declared its decision to exit the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) with effect from 01 Jan 2024.

10. In a first, a Hindu woman Saveera Parkash in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district has filed her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming polls in Pakistan.

General elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on February 8, 2024, to elect the members of the 16th National Assembly.
