1. Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font has voiced support for India’s inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
2. In a significant development, the United States has officially designated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a “major defence partner,” placing the Gulf nation on par with India, which has held the status since 2016. This move, announced during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to Washington, marks a deepening of military and strategic ties between the US and UAE.
3. New York, the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly opens today.
External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar will represent India and will deliver a speech on the 28th of September.

4. The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) was cancelled by the Union Home Ministry for alleged rule violations. The ICA, established in 1895, is an apex body representing cooperatives worldwide and has over 1 billion members.

1. Israel’s military said that it has carried out a new wave of strikes in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa area. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, 51 people have been killed in the attacks.
2. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned the world leaders that the world is edging towards the unimaginable situation of a powder keg which risks engulfing the world.
3. In Srilanka, Days after completion of Presidential Election, Sri Lanka now heads towards Parliamentary Elections. A gazette notification was issued last night by the President to dissolve the 225 member Parliament. The elections will be held on 14th of November this year for which Nominations will be received between 4th and 11th October.
4. Russia and China started naval exercises in the Sea of Japan. The exercises will include anti-aircraft and anti-submarine weapons. Aim This exercise aims to deepen the strategic cooperation level between the Chinese and Russian militaries and enhance their ability to jointly deal with security threats.
