1. India stops flow of Ravi river into Pakistan by building new barrage. The diverted water will be used for irrigation purposes in the Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indus Water Treaty was signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan that allowed India an exclusive right over waters of the Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas rivers whereas Pakistan got full access to the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers. The newly-built barrage will help India fully exploit the allocated water resources, redirecting previously allocated resources from the old Lakhanpur dam towards Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
2. Indian journalist Fazil Khan, 27, tragically dies in a Manhattan apartment fire, attributed to a lithium-ion battery. The fire in Harlem’s 2 St. Nicholas Place injures 17 others. The Indian Consulate in New York extends condolences, offering assistance.
3. Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari speaks virtually at the Gulf Maharashtra Business Forum Global Mahabiz 2024 conference in Dubai; Outlines India’s ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2070.
4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bharat Tex 2024, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The 4-day textile event is considered one of the largest-ever global textile events to be organised in India with more than 100 countries participating at the event.

1. Social media platform ‘X shutdown continues for eighth day in Pakistan : Even after eight days, the services of social media giant X, formerly Twitter, remained suspended across Pakistan while the authorities have yet to disclose the reason behind the prolonged disruption.
2. The Israeli delegation, led by Chief of Mossad David Barnea and Director of Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, held discussions in Paris with officials from Cairo, the US, Qatar and Egypt.
3. Russian presidential election 2024: Early voting for the Russian presidential election kicked off in the Russian-occupied region of Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia, said Galina Katyushchenko, chairperson of the regional election commission.
4. Nepal will soon make it mandatory for all climbers to get an electronic chip before embarking on the tedious expedition to the summit of Mount Everest. The chip, costing between $10 and $15, will help rescue agencies locate the climbers in an emergency situation. Kathmandu is expected to formulate a law before this spring season when the climbing season starts.
5. The iconic Parisian monument, the Eiffel Tower, on Sunday (Feb 25) is set to be reopened for visitors following a six-day closure due to strikes. The Eiffel Tower which witnesses thousands of visitors every day and is typically open 365 days a year has been closed for nearly a week, after workers went on a strike in a dispute over the way the tower was managed.
6. Farmers drove tractors into central Paris on Friday to bring fresh pressure on President Emmanuel Macron, who promised them a meeting to discuss their grievances but then cancelled the event. French farmers have been part of a Europe-wide movement against environmental rules and competition from cheap imports from outside the European Union, and to protest low incomes.
