#External affairs Minister: Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with United States Indo-Pacific Command Commander Admiral John Aquilino in Delhi on Friday. The two sides held talks on strategic situation.

2. India and the US on Friday held 11th bilateral Consular Dialogue in New Delhi and discussed ways to enhance cooperation on various issues, including extradition, mobility of students and professionals, safe and legal migration, protection of vulnerable women and children and enabling smooth travel of their respective nationals.

3. Ukraine Deputy Foreign Minister Iryna Borovets expressed gratitude to India for providing humanitarian help to Ukraine and added that they will appreciate it if they receive more humanitarian support from India in future. Calling India a powerful economic nation.

4. Union Minister of State, Meenakashi Lekhi, held a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Norway, Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik and discussed cooperation in the areas of the blue economy, space and clean energy.The meeting was held on Thursday on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue in the national capital.

5. Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet on Friday said that Vietnam wants to further enhance bilateral economic, trade and investment ties with India.

6. Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan participated in #G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) held under the Brazilian G20 Presidency on 21st and 22nd February in Rio de Janeiro.

1.. The Odysseus spacecraft from the United successfully landed on the moon on Thursday (local time), becoming the first American spacecraft to achieve the feat in more than 50 years.With this, Intuitive Machines (IM) — the commercial venture behind the Nova-C lander — has become the first private venture to carry out a successful landing.

2. US President Joe Biden met with the wife and daughter of late Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny in San Francisco and expressed his “heartfelt condolences” following the death of Russian leader in prison.

3. United States on Friday (Feb 23rd) announced a fresh wave of more than 500 sanctions against Russia. These sanctions announced on the second anniversary of the Ukrainian war, come after the death of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny in prison.

These include dismantling Hamas and Islamic Jihad and safeguarding the release of all hostages that are held captive in Gaza.

4. Volcanic gas emission in Mexico triggers yellow alert for residents. The volcano had reactivated earlier in the week, prompting authorities to issue a yellow alert in the surrounding area.

5. The German parliament on Friday (Feb 23rd) backed the move to partly legalise cannabis use. This legislation would make Germany only the third European country to legalise the drug for personal use. Those between the ages of 18 to 21 will only be allowed to buy up to 30g of cannabis with a maximum THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content of 10%.
