1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, next week for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the East Asia Summits and could meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines. India has so far not officially announced the visit. The Asean summit will be held in Kuala Lumpur on October 26-27.
2. PM Modi has congratulated Rodrigo Paz Pereira, on his election as the President of Bolivia. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that he is looking forward to deepening the partnership between the nations for shared progress and prosperity in the years to come.
3. The Government of India has restored the status of the Technical Mission of India in Kabul to that of Embassy of India in Afghanistan with immediate effect. Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said that the decision underscores India’s resolve to deepen its bilateral engagement with the Afghan side in all spheres of mutual interest.
4. India’s Chandrayaan-2 mission has achieved a remarkable milestone by making the first-ever observation of the sun’s coronal mass ejection (CME) effects on the moon. This discovery, made by the Chandra’s Atmospheric Composition Explorer-2 (CHACE-2) payload onboard the lunar orbiter, provides valuable insights into lunar and space weather phenomena.
5. The Government of Tuvalu has officially joined the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as its 90th State Member. The Ministry of Environment will act as the liaison with the IUCN Secretariat.
6. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that global use of sustainable fuels could quadruple by 2035, driven by the implementation of current and announced policies alongside targeted investment incentives. Released ahead of Brazil’s COP30 presidency, the IEA report titled Delivering Sustainable Fuels: Pathways to 2035 reinforces the role of sustainable fuels in reducing fossil fuel dependence, especially in transport and heavy industry sectors.

2. Sanae Takaichi elected Japan’s first female prime minister, marking a political shift to the right with promises of economic stimulus amid rising inflation.
A former television anchor, Takaichi entered Japanese politics in 1993, winning a seat in the Lower House as an independent. Ms Takaichi joined Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party in 1996 and entered the Cabinet for the first time under former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
