1. The former Maldivian minister of foreign affairs, Abdullah Shahid was appointed as the president of the country’s largest opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party on Tuesday.This comes after former party president Mohammed Nasheed left the party on June 21 last year.
2. The United States, on Wednesday (Feb 21) urged the United Nations’ top court not to remove Israel from the occupied West Bank and Gaza without security guarantees and consider Israel’s “very real security needs”.
3. The BBC Russian Service and news outlet Mediazona have confirmed the identity of around 45,000 Russian soldiers who died in Ukraine since the invasion began in February 2022.
