1. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met UAE Minister of Economy Tourism Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri at the World Economic Forum summit in Davos yesterday.

2. Minister of Economy and Tourism for the United Arab Emirates, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy-led ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation, at WEF 2026, on Tuesday. The delegation discussed potential areas of mutual cooperation in the state’s large infrastructure projects, especially the Bharat Future City.

3. India and the UAE agreed to double bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032. Under the new deal, Abu Dhabi state oil firm ADNOC will supply LNG of up to $3 billion for a period of 10 years, starting 2028, to India’s state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.

India has been looking to diversify its trade, after the U.S. imposed tariffs on its exports, and has announced pacts with the UK, Oman and New Zealand.

4. European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen says that India and the European Union (#EU) are on the cusp of signing the Free Trade Agreement (#FTA), describing it as the ‘mother of all agreements’.

5. The latest data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry shows that Brazil and Nigeria are emerging as key export destinations for Indian pharmaceutical products amid global economic uncertainties. India’s pharma exports recorded robust growth from April to November 2025-26.

Nigeria stood out with a $179 million growth contribution, Brazil also recorded a noticeable rise in pharmaceutical imports from India, adding nearly $100 million.

1. Leaders of European Union countries will hold an emergency summit on Thursday on US threats of tariffs linked to President Trump’s stated desire to acquire Greenland.

2. China’s population fell for the fourth consecutive year in 2025, dropping by 3 million as births hit a record low of 7.92 million.

3. Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has won a seventh term with 71.65% votes in the 2026 elections. Opposition leader Bobi Wine rejected the results, alleging fraud and calling for peaceful protests.

4. The United States will deploy military aircraft to Greenland’s Pituffik Space Base as tensions rise over US President Donald Trump’s push to acquire the self-governing Danish territory.

5. US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte about Greenland and said that he would meet several parties in Davos. He reiterated his stance on Greenland, calling it integral for American and world security at large.

6. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on Monday (local time) said its aircraft would soon arrive at the base, formerly known as Thule Air Force Base, as part of long-planned activities aimed at supporting routine operations to defend North America.

7. The Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX) opened on Tuesday at the ADNEC Centre, Abu Dhabi, bringing together international players to showcase advances in unmanned systems, robotics, simulation and training technologies. The exhibitions will run until January 22.

8. In Bangladesh, a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officer was killed, and at least three others were seriously injured after a RAB team came under a coordinated mob attack in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda, Chattogram.

9. Leaders of European Union countries will hold an emergency summit on Jan 22.
