1. India and Pakistan have asked their students in Kyrgyztan to stay indoors, after mob violence targetting international students, specially from South Asia. The Indian Embassy has advised students to stay indoors and contact them if needed.

What Led to the Violence?
Tensions heightened after videos of a fight between Kyrgyz students and foreign students, mainly Pakistanis and Egyptians, on May 13 went viral on social media. Thus, several Kyrgyz locals took to the streets on May 17 night, accusing officials of showing ‘lenient treatment’ towards the foreigners involved in the fight. 2. Dhaka Believes India, China Can Resolve Rohingya Crisis: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said that the solution to the Rohingya crisis is the repatriation with civil rights and dignity. He said India’s intensified engagement along with Chinese mediation as regional powers is crucial to accomplish the complicated task.

3. A nine-day long Indo-Bangla Baul music festival began in Dhaka on Friday to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of the mystic saint and humanist bard Fakir Lalan Shah. 1. A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and senior officials in northwestern Iran suffered a crash with information awaited for potential injuries or damage. This is reported by the official news agency of Iran IRNA.

2. The Democratic Republic of Congo army says, it has quashed an attempted coup against President Felix Tshikedi in the capital Kinshasa, involving Congolese and foreign fighters.

3. In South Africa, the ruling African National Congress is facing its toughest election this month after 30 years of dominating the country’s politics since 1994. Voters will elect a new National Assembly as well as the provincial legislatures. The President is elected by members of the National Assembly. President Cyril Ramaphosa hopes the 29 May ballot will lead to his reelection.

4. In Taiwan, President-elect Lai Ching-te will take oath of office today. He won the presidential election in January. 64 years old Lai has served as Vice President for the past four years during incumbent President Tsai Ing-wen’s second term.

5. In Sri Lanka, the Kumbhabhishekam at Seetha Amman temple – Seetha Eliya was held yesterday with great devotion. About 25 litres of holy Saryu water which was flown in from Ayodhya for the ceremony was used for the abhishekam of the gopura of the temple. In addition, 5000 laddoos from Tirumala Tirupati Temple and several artefacts were brought in from various temples of India as well as Nepal’s Janakpur.

6. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to review nearly finalized strategic agreements between Saudi Arabia and the United States. They also discussed a broad bilateral agreement and Israel’s war in Gaza.

7. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan informed that situation in the city of Bishkek is calm and under full control, and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure security, maintain peace and stability.

8. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty’s personal wealth went up by £122 million over the past year. The couple’s projected net worth jumped from £529 million in 2023 to £651 million in 2024. As per the annual list of the 1,000 wealthiest individuals in the UK, it suggests that they are richer than King Charles.

9. Alice Leal Guo, the mayor of a small town in the Philippines, is currently being investigated due to suspicions about her citizenship, with some suggesting she might be an undercover agent of China.

10. At least 14 people were killed when a mini lorry carrying a Pakistani family plunged into a ditch due to brake failure, The incident took place in the Khushab district of the central Punjab province early on Saturday.

11. Azmi Abu Daqqa, a prominent Hamas operative in the terror group’s Procurement Dept. was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Rafah, the Israel Defence Forces said on Sunday.Daqqa was actively involved in smuggling weapons and funds into Gaza for Hamas.
