1. 10th International Day Of Yoga Announces Its Theme: “Yoga For And Society”. The International Day of Yoga, established by the United Nations on 21 June, focuses on physical health benefits, mental well-being, and the ancient practice of yoga. It aims to educate the public, mobilize political will, and address global issues.
2. PM Modi has officially inaugurated the new Nalanda University campus on Wednesday, 19 June 2024. ASEAN members and ambassadors from 17 participating countries attended the inauguration.
The newly renovated campus is situated near the ancient ruins of the historic Nalanda University, the Buddhist Center of Learning until 13th century. This move is part of a plan that began about two decades ago.
3. Recently Four Indian fishermen were arrested by the Srilankan Navy. The fishermen belonging to Pudukottai were fishing near Neduntheevu when they were arrested for trespassing into Srilankan waters.
4. Union Minister S Jaishankar is set to embark on an official visit to Sri Lanka on 20 June.
5. Taiwan is actively considering the implementation of visa-on-arrival (VoA) for Indian citizens.Deputy Foreign Minister of Taiwan, Tien Chung-kwang expressed this intention, highlighting India’s significant outbound travel and the potential benefits of easing visa procedures.

1. Thailand will become the first nation in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage after the kingdom’s Senate approved a marriage equality bill on June 18, with supporters calling it a “monumental step forward for LGBTQ+ rights.”
2. NATO has taken a big step forward by setting up a €1 billion innovation fund. This is in reaction to changes in the global defense landscape, especially after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. The goal of this fund, which was announced in the summer of 2022, is to improve the alliance’s defense and security technology.
3. More than 550 pilgrims have lost their lives due to scorching heat wave during Hajj pilgrimage at Mecca in Saudi Arabia with extreme temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius.
4. In China, at least 13 people have died in heavy rains, floods and landslides, while many were missing.
5. In Bangladesh, at least nine persons were killed at Rohingya camps in rain-triggered landslides which also damaged many dwellings. Rohingya people live in 33 camps in Cox’s Bazar district.
6. In Iran, at least four people were killed and more than 120 others injured in a magnitude- 5.0 earthquake that jolted the Kashmar County in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.
7. At least 11 migrants died while another 66 remain missing in two shipwrecks off the Italian coasts on Tuesday. The Italian authorities said, a search and rescue operation by coast guard is going on in the Mediterranean hours after two migrant boats encountered problems near the Italian coasts.
8. China has been systematically changing the names of several villages in Xinjiang which have religious, historical, or cultural significance to the Uyghur community.
