✈ *INTERNATIONAL NEWS*

1. Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath has said that trade dynamics between India and Sri Lanka have immense potential in the future. He recalled the generous assistance extended by India to the island nation during the economic crisis.

2. President Droupadi Murmu, on the second day of her visit to Malawi as part of her trip to three African nations, held bilateral meetings with her counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, yesterday. Four MoUs were signed between India and Malawi after delegation-level talks. Four MoUs signed in the field of Art and Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs, and Pharmaceuticals.

3. India is sending humanitarian assistance to Lebanon in the form of 33 tonnes of medical supplies. The first tranche of 11 tonnes of medical supplies was dispatched yesterday.

4. Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will visit Indonesia this Saturday and Sunday. He will attend the inauguration ceremony of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Jakarta on Sunday.

This year is significant as both countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations and mark a decade of India’s ‘Act East’ policy, of which Indonesia is an important pillar.

5. Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), has been appointed as the new Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Dr. Pathak is the first Indian to hold this prestigious position and only the second individual of Indian origin, following Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, to lead a research institute within the global CGIAR system.

6. Bhutan’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Lyonpo Gem Tshering, met with Power Minister Manohar Lal in New Delhi. The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding cooperation between the two nations in the hydropower sector.

7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to embark on two-day visit to Russia from Tuesday to attend BRICS Summit in Kazan.

1. *In Turkey: 7 killed, 33 others injured in bus accident* : Authorities said some of the injured are in serious condition, and they are still working to identify those who lost their lives. The injured have been transferred to nearby hospitals, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.

2. *Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar has been killed in a chance encounter with Israeli forces in Rafah in southern Gaza.* A photo taken at the scene shows Sinwar, dressed in combat gear, lying dead in the rubble of a building that was hit by a tank shell. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the soldiers and made clear that however big a victory, it is not the end of the war. However, Hamas has not yet confirmed his death. Sinwar was one of the masterminds behind last year’s October 7 attacks on Israel.

3. *In Pakistan, the protests against the rape incident in Lahore turned severe as various incidents of violence, vandalism and arson were reported in various cities* . According to media reports, at least 250 protesters were arrested in Rawalpindi. The police used tear gas to disperse students demonstrating against the incident. It said, a security guard was killed, and several campuses of the educational institutions were vandalized and set on fire. The protesters also clashed with police.
