Ukraine is poised to strike inside Russia

Ukraine to hit Russian soil with longer-range weapons. The Kremlin warned Monday that President Joe Biden’s decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles adds “fuel to the fire” of the war and would escalate international tensions even higher.

Biden’s shift in policy added an uncertain, new factor to the conflict on the eve of the 1,000-day milestone since Russia began its full-scale invasion in 2022. American officials said the missiles, known as the Army Tactical Missile Systems, were likely to be deployed, at least initially, against Russian and North Korean troops in the Kursk region of western Russia.

1. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will visit India in December, newly appointed Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said.

3. A high-level meeting on Nepal-India border security coordination held in Kathmandu. Director General of India’s SSB Amrit Mohan Prasad, leading a six-member Indian delegation on the discussion table with Nepali delegation.

Proposals have been tabled from the Nepali side on crime control in the border areas and exchange of information for this, control of revenue leakage, illegal drug trafficking and human trafficking as well as the control of illegal entry of citizens of third countries.

4. India, in collaboration with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), will host the Global Learning and Development Framework (GLDF) Results Management Training in New Delhi.

The four-day training aims to standardize anti-doping procedures, foster collaboration among nations, and strengthen the global sport integrity framework.

5. Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh will pay an official visit to Vientiane, Laos from the 20th to the 22nd of November to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus). He will address the forum on regional and international security issues during the meeting.

6. The European Parliament has recently voted to postpone the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which provides additional time for Indian coffee and rubber growers to comply with new regulations. The initial deadline of December 2024 has now been extended to 30 December 2025, for large coffee operators.

1. Sri Lanka President urges IMF to balance economic reforms with citizens’ hardships. The IMF delegation led by Senior Mission Chief Peter Breuer met Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The IMF had approved a 2.9 billion USD Extended Fund Facility available to Sri Lanka over 48 months in tranches to help its economy recover from the economic crisis.

2. The Global Freight Summit 2024 commenced in Dubai today, marking its third edition since its inception in 2022. The three-day event, hosted by DP World, has attracted more than 5,000 industry leaders from 155 countries.

3. Gabonese voters have approved of a new constitution by a landslide 91.8% proposed by the country’s military rulers, the proposed new constitution introduces a limit of two terms on the presidency, while also increasing the length of terms from five to seven years. The Central African Country’s new constitution also abolishes the position of prime minister and stipulates that family members cannot succeed a president.

4. Germany has announced that it will grant 200,000 visas for skilled job seekers by the end of the year, a 10 per cent jump compared to last year. Europe’s largest economy continues to face chronic labour shortages, with around 1.34 million jobs currently vacant.

5. 🇺🇸US President Joe Biden has allowed Ukraine to use U.S.-made weapons to strike deep into Russia, multiple US media outlets reported. However, the US has not formally announced the decision.

6. The International Crimes Tribunal, 🇧🇩Bangladesh has been ordered to submit reports within one month in two cases filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 others for crimes against humanity on charge of alleged genocide during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

7. Three Peshmerga soldiers, part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s military forces, were killed in a roadside bomb blast in Salahuddin province, located north of Baghdad.
