1. United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Nahyan will be on an official visit to India today at the invitation of PM Modi. This will be Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s third official visit to India since assuming office as president and his fifth visit to the country over the past decade.
2. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski, who is currently on a three-day visit to India, will meet External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi today.
3. US Congressman and a member of Donald Trump’s Republican party, Rich McCormick, has said, unlike India, Pakistan doesn’t bring investments into America. 1. The European union (EU) is set to hold an emergency meeting in Brussels after US President Donald Trump announced tariffs on eight European countries over their opposition to a potential American acquisition of Greenland. Ambassadors from all twenty seven EU member states will deliberate on the issue.
2. The US administration has circulated a draft charter to around 60 countries that calls for members to contribute one billion dollars in cash if they want their membership to last more than three years.
3. Air quality in the Kathmandu Valley has been deteriorating sharply, reaching very unhealthy levels in the morning and evening this winter. More than a thousand Brick kilns started their operations on January 15 in Nepal, which was a deadline agreed upon by the industry and government. 9. A violent wildfire raging near Concepción in southern Chile has forced the evacuation of more than twenty thousand people. According to officials, the wildfire has rapidly spread over twenty-three kilometres around Penco and the surrounding areas in the Biobío Region, close to the city of Concepción.
