1. INDIAN WOMAN CADET ABOARD CARGO VESSEL SEIZED BY IRAN RETURNS HOME : The lone woman among the 17 Indian members of the crew of the MSC Aries, a cargo vessel detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, has returned home even as Tehran conveyed to New Delhi that the rest of the crew were also free to leave the Ship.
2. Special Representative Roza Otunbayeva, the Head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan UNAMA met External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi. They exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan. Dr Jaishankar emphasised that India has provided wheat, medicines, pesticides and school supplies to Afghanistan.
3. Bharath @ Rising Pulses Imports: Bharath despite being a major producer and consumer of pulses, has seen a significant increase in pulses imports in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Imports have nearly doubled to USD 3.74 billion, with shipments have surpassed 45 lakh tonnes, compared to 24.5 lakh tonnes in the previous year. The government is taking various measures to meet domestic demand and keep prices in check, including negotiating with new markets like Brazil and Argentina for long-term import contracts.

DUBAI FLOOD: INDIAN CONSULATE ISSUES HELPLINE: The Indian embassy in Dubai said on Thursday that it is in constant touch with the UAE authorities to facilitate the return of stranded Indians in the city. The embassy said that regular updates from airlines were being conveyed to travellers. The embassy issued helpline numbers for Indians stranded in Dubai earlier.
5. Ten people including Kenya’s defence chief lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Thursday (Apr 18) after the aircraft came down minutes after take-off, announced President William Ruto.

1. The administration of United States President Joe Biden has imposed new sanctions on Iran in response to its missile and drone attack on Israel, as tensions mount over the possibility of further escalation in the Middle East.
Sanctions targeted 16 people and two entities linked to the production of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), or drones, including models that were used in the Iranian attack against Israel.
2. Jailed former Maldives President Abdulla Yameen was released by the Maldives high court, which decided to overturn his 11-year prison sentence in relation to a money laundering case. The decision was made by a three-judge bench in the archipelago, which termed Yameen’s 2022 trial as unfair and ordered the authorities to lodge a fresh case and restart the criminal proceedings.
3. The former US President Donald Trump steps into court for third day of hush-money trial amid ongoing jury selection.
He is arguably the first ever former US president to be battling with criminal charges for which he is currently facing trial, which is based on lies about payments used to conceal negative revelations during his 2016 election campaign.
