Myanmar under Operation Sadbhav

1. India has sent 53 tonnes of emergency flood relief assistance worth one million dollars to Myanmar under Operation Sadbhav. Typhoon Yagi caused loss of hundreds of lives, and massive destruction of property in the neighbouring country.

2. According to reports, 🇺🇸U.S government officials urged allies, including India, to join its effort to ban Russian media for its alleged ‘disinformation campaign.’ New Delhi reportedly snubbed the pressure and reminded Washington that India has an independent foreign policy.

3. PM Modi will undertake a three-day visit to the U.S 🇺🇸 from September 21 to 23. The visit will include participation in the QUAD Leaders’ Summit, attendance at the UN’s “Summit of the Future”, and meetings with industry leaders focused on cutting-edge technology, particularly in semiconductors.

4. QUAD summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden, was originally scheduled to be hosted by India. The White House announced on September 13 that the event will now take place in the US, with India set to host it next year. The Quad summit brings together leaders from India, Australia, Japan, and the US. At the summit, the leaders will review the progress of the QUAD over the past year and set the agenda for the upcoming year to support the development goals and aspirations of countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

5. The Indian Army on Tuesday started a two-day ‘drone-a-thon’ to revolutionise the operations and provide tactical superiority in difficult terrains. “In a bold stride towards redefining military capabilities in high-altitude environments, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), conducted the highly anticipated HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2,”

6. Duyir Ete from Arunachal Pradesh captured hearts and minds at the Miss Global World 2024 pageant, securing the 2nd Runner-up position and the title of Miss Super Model. The grand finale, held in Dubai on September 14, featured 37 contestants from around the globe.

1. At least 18 people have lost their lives so far in flooding caused by Storm Boris in Central and Eastern Europe.

2. Nine fighters and medics linked with the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah died and 2,750 others were injured on Tuesday (Sep 17) as the pagers that they used to communicate exploded suddenly.

3. Jordan’s King Abdullah II has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh following last week’s parliamentary elections. Al-Khasawneh, a seasoned diplomat who had been in office since October 2020, resigned in accordance with the constitutional norm after legislative elections. Jafar Hassan, a technocrat and former planning minister who was serving as the king’s head of office, has been appointed as the new prime minister.

4. From September 29 to November 25, 2024, Earth will have a temporary companion called asteroid 2024 PT5. This asteroid will orbit around our planet for two months, acting like a mini-moon. However, it will not be visible to the naked eye or even most amateur telescopes because it is too faint.
