Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal today said, the visit is likely to start from 23rd of this month and country’s chief negotiator Darpan Jain will be leading a delegation to the US to finalise the legal trade agreement.
4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet French President Emmanuel Macron to launch the ‘India-France Year of Innovation’ and advance strategic cooperation between the two nations. Macron’s three-day visit to India from February 17 to 19 underscores the deepening partnership, with discussions centred on artificial intelligence, defence collaboration, technology partnerships, and the Indo-Pacific.
5. Twenty-five fishermen from Karaikal were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing near the International Maritime Boundary Line yesterday. The incident occurred near the Kaarainagar sea area.

1. A delegation led by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday for a three-day visit to assess damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
2. Four people were killed after an Israeli airstrike targeted a vehicle near Lebanon’s border with Syria, underlining continued hostilities along Israel’s northern front despite an existing truce.
3. David J. Farber, widely regarded as a “grandfather of the internet”, passed away on 7 February in Tokyo at the age of 91. According to his family, the cause of death was heart failure.
4. World Health Organization (WHO) has prequalified an additional novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2). The move strengthens global capacity to respond to outbreaks caused by circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2).
WHO prequalification certifies that the vaccine meets international standards for safety, quality, and effectiveness. This enables UN agencies such as UNICEF to procure and distribute it globally.
5. Israel’s cabinet approved a plan on Sunday to restart formal land registration in the occupied West Bank, marking the first such measure since Israel captured the territory in 1967.
6. In China, eight people were killed and left two others with minor burns following an explosion and fire at a fireworks shop, ahead of the Lunar New Year.
