1. PM Modi will serve as the chief guest at the inaugural ET World Leaders Forum, scheduled for August 31 in New Delhi. The forum aims to address India’s role in global economic growth, innovation, and policy-making amidst a backdrop of global economic stagnation.

3. India Sends 1,400 kg of Anti-Cancer Drugs to Syria: India has sent humanitarian assistance to Syria. External Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a social media post said that in keeping with its humanitarian commitments, India has despatched anti-cancer drugs to Syria.
4. PM Modi held a telephonic conversation with Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh on Friday and emphasised the need to ensure the safety and protection of minorities in the country.
5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday discussed the prevailing situation in West Asia. Mr. Modi received a telephone call from Benjamin Netanyahu.
6. India and Australia recently held two significant bilateral meetings to enhance their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Australia hosted the 6th India-Australia Maritime Security Dialogue in Canberra, while India hosted the 14th India-Australia Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism in New Delhi. Both dialogues aimed at strengthening cooperation in maritime security and counter-terrorism.

India and Vietnam are bolstering their strategic alliance to improve maritime security and defence in the South China Sea, thereby promoting stability and freedom of navigation in the Indo-PacificIndia and Vietnam are enhancing their maritime security cooperation amid rising tensions in the South China Sea (SCS).
8. India and Russia are collaborating on a significant nuclear fuel deal valued at ₹10,500 crore (approximately $1.27 billion). This agreement focuses on supplying nuclear fuel and core components for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, specifically for its new units 3 and 4, which are being developed with Russian assistance.
9. The Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma will lead US delegations to India from August 17-22 to advance and support a prosperous, secure, and resilient future for both countries, the US Department of State said.
10. India will host the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit today in a virtual format. The theme of the Summit is – An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future.
The Global South summit will act as a platform to expand discussions held in the previous Summits on a range of complex challenges that continue to affect the world, such as conflicts, food and energy security crises and climate change.

1. Thailand’s Parliament on August 16, elected Paetongtarn Shinawatra as their youngest Prime Minister, days after her father Thaksin Shinawatra was removed by a court order. The 37-year-old Shinawatra received 319 votes, which is nearly two-thirds of the house.
2. Germany’s recent inclusion in the U.S.-led United Nations Command (UNC) in South Korea marks a significant expansion of the command’s member states, now totaling 18 nations. This move underscores Berlin’s commitment to global security, linking European stability to the broader Indo-Pacific region.
3. Ten months of cross-border violence between Hezbollah and Israeli forces has killed senior commanders and several hundred fighters from the Iran-backed group, causing destruction and displacing tens of thousands on both sides.Hezbollah has seen more fighters killed since October than when it last went to war with Israel in the summer of 2006.
4. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning on August 13, about an increase in cases of parvovirus B19, also known as “fifth disease.” This is a highly contagious infection that is currently affecting many young children in the United States.
5. In Yemen, at least 14 soldiers were killed in a suicide terror attack yesterday. The explosion caused significant casualties, with an additional 17 military personnel injured, some of them in critical condition. The attack is attributed to a suicide bomber suspected to be affiliated with an al-Qaeda branch in the country’s turbulent southern province of Abyan.
