1. The Canadian government put a limit on the number of foreign students it would accept in January. This had a big effect on people from India and other countries who wanted to study there.

2. According to data from the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), an economic think tank, China has emerged as India’s largest trading partner in the fiscal year 2023-24, surpassing the United States. The two-way commerce between India and China stood at a staggering $118.4 billion, slightly edging out the $118.3 billion traded with the US.

3. India and Russia held bilateral consultations on Afghanistan in New Delhi. According to the External Affairs Ministry, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov and Joint Secretary (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division) in Ministry of External Affairs JP Singh discussed the current situation in Afghanistan.

4. As per the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) Report 2024, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has been ranked as the best-performing institute across India. IIM Ahmedabad climbed nine spots to secure the 410th position globally.

5. India and Norway held Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on Tuesday and discussed ways to expand and diversify bilateral cooperation in a range of areas including blue economy, renewable energy, climate and environment and green hydrogen.The two countries also lauded the signing of India-EFTA TEPA this year in March.

1. Ukraine has withdrawn its troops from multiple villages in the border area of Kharkiv following continued pressure from Russian forces.

2. Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico was on Wednesday shot multiple times and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a cabinet meeting.

The attack took place after an off-site government meeting in the central Slovak town of Handlova. The suspected gunman was among a small crowd of people waiting to greet the prime minister on the street outside the cultural center

3. Georgia’s parliament passed a controversial “foreign agents” bill on May 14, despite strong opposition from within the country and from around the world. The bill says that news outlets, NGOs, and other groups that get more than 20% of their money from outside the United States must register as “foreign agents.”

4. China and Pakistan recently talked about their long-term plans for growth. These plans include changing the route of the Karakoram Highway and making other important CPEC projects better.

5. A missile fired by a drone struck a house in a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban in north-western Pakistan along the Afghan border on Tuesday, killing at least four villagers, including children.The strike happened in South Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
