1. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is part of India and its people irrespective of their religion are Indians, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday. He also strongly defended the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and said the law was enacted to provide Indian nationality to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

2. External Affairs Ministry has said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is an internal matter of India and that those who have a “limited understanding of India’s pluralistic traditions” should not make “misplaced, misinformed, and unwarranted” comments on the legislation.The MEA statement on Friday came after the US expressed concerns over the CAA.

3. India on Friday said it is pressing Russia “very hard” for early discharge of the Indians serving as support staff with Russian military units.

4. India on Friday said it is looking at evacuating up to 90 of its nationals from Haiti in view of the deteriorating security situation in the Caribbean nation. Various gangs have launched coordinated attacks on key installations in Haiti in an attempt to force the resignation of the country’s embattled Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

5. Amid the deteriorating security situation in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, the Ministry of External Affairs said that it has told all the Indians to evacuate and move away from there.”

1. President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA) has appointed Mohammad Mustafa as the new Prime Minister.

2. French President Emmanuel Macron has announced plans to introduce new legislation that will legalize “aid in dying” for adults facing end-of-life illnesses. This landmark decision follows a report from last year indicating strong public support for end-of-life options in France.

Eligible individuals must be experiencing “intractable” physical or psychological pain. Only those aged 18 or above who are capable of forming their own views will be allowed to initiate the process.

3. A Russian ballistic missile strike devastated a residential area in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, Ukraine on Friday, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 people and injuring over 70 others, marking Moscow’s deadliest attack in weeks, according to Ukrainian officials.

4. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Thursday that he would not hold a general election in early May month, in the strongest indication yet that the national vote would take place later this year.
