1. The Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council will serve as chief guests at India’s 77th Republic Day parade, marking a significant diplomatic milestone.Antonio Luis Santos da Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, are scheduled to undertake a three-day state visit to India.

2. India’s green energy transition is often projected as a success story of scale speed. India today has one of the world’s largest transmission networks. However, renewable energy capacity has expanded far faster than the grid’s ability to evacuate power. Renewable energy capacity has surged from about 75 GW in 2015 to nearly 250 GW in 2025.

3. Uruguay’s Ambassador to India, Alberto Antonio Guani Amarilla, has said that the US seeking control over Greenland would create big problems with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the European Union (EU) and the rest of the world.

7. Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has removed Indian-origin Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh as Leader of the Opposition (LoP), and asked the Opposition party to nominate another Member of Parliament (MP) to fill the position.

1. Yemen’s Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council accepted Prime Minister Salem bin Breik’s resignation and appointed Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsen Zindani (or Shayea Al-Zindani) as the new Prime Minister to form the next cabinet.

2. United States has announced an indefinite suspension of immigrant visa processing for citizens of 75 countries, starting January 21, as part of a renewed immigration crackdown under President Donald Trump’s administration.

3. Gagan Kumar Thapa elected unopposed as Nepali Congress president at Special General Convention.
The Special General Convention, convened on January 11 by NC party leaders who supported the event, unanimously elected a new Central Working Committee under the leadership of Thapa.

4. Nepal observes National Agricultural Biodiversity Day yesterday. It’s an annual observance in the Himalayan nation dedicated to recognising and promoting the importance of agricultural biodiversity.

5. Elon Musk-led SpaceX yesterday successfully brought back four 🇺🇸🚀NASA astronauts to Earth in the first-ever medical evacuation from the International Space Station (ISS). NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov returned to Earth aboard SpaceX’s Dragon capsule.

6. At least 18 Baloch people were forcibly disappeared in raids conducted by Pakistani armed forces over the past two weeks in Balochistan. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported that 11 people were forcibly disappeared from Kech’s Hothabad and seven from Gwadar’s Panwan Jiwani.

7. The United Kingdom has temporarily closed its embassy in Tehran and withdrawn all diplomatic staff, citing a worsening security situation as tensions escalate following Iran’s violent crackdown on protests.

8. Iran extended an order closing its airspace to commercial aircraft without explanation early yesterday as tensions remained high with the United States over Tehran’s bloody crackdown on nationwide protests.
