1. India on Monday expelled six Canadian diplomats and announced withdrawing its high commissioner and other ‘targeted’ officials from Canada after strongly dismissing Ottawa’s allegations linking the envoy to a probe into the killing of Sikh extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in a major downturn in already frosty ties between the two nations.

2. Who Was Hardeep Singh Nijjar? Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, whose death has sparked tensions between India and Canada, was a known terrorist in India. He led the Khalistan Tiger Force and was wanted for multiple cases. Nijjar, aged 45, had close ties with Gurdeep Singh, also known as Deepa Heranwala, who was linked to the deaths of around 200 people in Punjab during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

3. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a two day visit to Islamabad today to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The External Affairs Minister had earlier remarked that his Pakistan visit is for a multilateral event and he had ruled out bilateral talks. This will be the first high-level visit of an Indian Foreign Minister to the neighbouring nation in nine years.

4. The Audiovisual Co-production Agreement between India and Colombia will be signed today in New Delhi. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan will be the signatories representative of India and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez will be the signatories representing his country.

5. India’s vaccine regulatory system has been recognized as “functional” by the World Health Organization (WHO) following an evaluation from September 16-20, 2024. The WHO assessment team confirmed that India meets global standards for ensuring vaccine safety, quality, and efficacy.

1. The Shehbaz Sharif- Pakistan government has decided to deploy the army for security during the upcoming SCO summit in Islamabad. The grand summit will be held on October 15 and 16. Several key leaders including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the summit.

2. Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Monday has decided to award the 2024 Nobel Prize also known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences to Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James A Robinson ‘for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity.

3. 🇳🇮Nicaragua has officially severed diplomatic relations with Israel, a move announced by Vice President Rosario Murillo following a congressional resolution. This decision aligns with Nicaragua’s leftist government, led by President Daniel Ortega, which has condemned Israel’s actions in the ongoing Gaza conflict and labeled its government as “fascist and genocidal.”
